A Feis Checklist
As with most other things, everybody has their own way of preparing for a feis. One useful item is a 'feis checklist' -- it saves trying to remember everything each time.
Below is an example checklist. It probably includes things you don't need (especially if you're a fella!) and omits some others, but it might form the basis of your own.
- Costume and shawl
- Makeup
- Costume knickers
- Shorts
- Crown/tiara
- Plasters/blister first aid
- Wig/hairnet/spray/etc
- Safety pins
- Hair grips
- Entry documents (if issued)
- Hairbrush
- Competition number (if issued)
- Hair bands
- Maps/directions
- Light shoes
- Record book/pen
- Heavy shoes
- Elastics for heavy shoes (if you use them)
- Camera (film, batteries?)
- Poodle socks
- Tape for shoes/scissors
- Drinks (plenty)
- Shoe shine kit
- Snacks
- Holder or cord for number
- Books/puzzles for long waits
If you are travelling a long way, or might return late at night, other useful things include: sleeping bag and pillow (for the dancer, not the driver!); snacks and drinks for the journey; damp flannel and deodorant (for after the competition); mobile phone (for phoning your your results through to your friends).
As usual, if anybody has anything to add, please email us!
