House 'rules'
This website exists to provide information and a POSITIVE experience for those who love Irish dancing. There may well be things that are vexing you, but this website is NOT the place to air them. In particular, please read below:
- Treat this website as you would a friend's home. If you can respect our 'house rules', you are very, very welcome. If not, please leave quietly.
- We are very proud to have visitors of all ages from all over the world. Keep your messages moderate and suitable for an audience of widely differing ages, creeds, colours, and nationalities.
- Please don't post controversial or 'political' messages of any kind. This website is not the place for them.
- Posting messages on the Internet is like hanging a banner over a busy street. Do NOT chat about other people's business in public. It is extremely rude and almost never helpful.
- It is acceptable to congratulate a dancer on his/her performance, commiserate over an injury, or post a message of thanks to those who have worked hard to run an open feis. It is NOT acceptable to discuss individual dancers, dance schools or competitions for any other reason.
- Don't impersonate others. Even if intended in fun, it can cause serious embarrassment.
- Related to the above, be aware that it is easy to pretend to be somebody else. Don't believe everything you read and don't let what you read upset you.
- If you see a message that you take exception to, try reading it again. It may well be a perfectly innocent message that has been worded ambiguously or just plain badly.
- Be aware that a sad minority get their kicks from posting 'wind-up' messages on websites and watching everyone else react. See the next point for advice on what to do.
- If you see what you think is a 'dodgy' message, contact the webmaster@mcgahanlees.com. Do NOT respond by leaving 'counter-messages' on the guestbook. This only makes the situation worse.
