Who runs this site anyway?!
Having received a number of comments about the site addressed to Frances McGahan, we thought we should clarify a couple of points.
Whilst being closely associated with the McGahan Lees Irish Dance Academy, this website is funded and maintained by The Friends of McGahan Lees Irish Dance Academy -- an organisation set up and run by dancers' parents. Although originally a 'school site', it now exists to support Irish dancing and ALL Irish dancers however it can.
Importantly, these pages are NOT necessarily approved or endorsed by the McGahan Lees Irish Dance Academy. There is not enough time to discuss everything that appears on these pages before it is published. We try to be accurate but we are not experts in Irish dancing, and we will undoubtedly make mistakes from time to time.
If something on this site is wrong, inaccurate or just plain silly, please tell the Webmaster. If you want expert advice on Irish dancing, or need to contact Frances about anything else, please see the Academy page for her contact details.
Terms of use
We do our best to provide accurate and up-to-date information for the benefit of the Irish dancing community, and in particular dancers and their families. There is no charge for this. The site is run by unpaid volunteers.
In return visitors should be aware that this website is used by people of all ages around the world. It is NOT a forum for negative comments about individuals, schools or organisations, and bad language will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Using this site
With the original site a few years old and looking tired, we redesigned the entire site early in 2003 to make it 'cleaner', simpler, and more pleasant to use. We also took the opportunity to clean up the original code to make it easier to maintain and upgrade.
To get the best out of your visit here, you'll need a reasonably up-to-date web browser, an 800 x 600 screen, and Java/JavaScript/Cookies enabled. Please let us know if you have problems accessing any parts of the site.
Goods & Services
- The appearance of goods and services on this website does not imply any endorsement or recommendation. You must satisfy yourself of the fitness of anything you buy, and all agreements remain purely between buyer and seller. Neither McGahan Lees Irish Dance Academy nor any individuals involved with this website can take any responsibility for goods bought or sold, nor involve themselves in any disputes.
- The colours you see on your computer screen may differ greatly from the actual item. Be sure before committing yourself.
- Telephone numbers are probably UK numbers unless otherwise noted. Callers from other countries should dial their international access code, then 44, then the number shown without the leading zero. Please be aware of time zone differences before you dial.
Secondhand Items
Our secondhand page is primarily intended for the use of individuals who have items for sale. Please do not abuse our hospitality and resources if you are a commercial operation. We have no problem in carrying a 'commercial' dress advert occasionally, but we would appreciate you telling us that you are selling it for profit, and it must be made clear to potential buyers that they are dealing with a commercial seller.
Note that we reserve the right to refuse any advertisement, private or commercial, without supplying a reason. We make no guarantees about the accuracy or efficacy of our website, or the time taken to add any advert received to it. This is a free service and should be treated as such.
Fraud
We have been made aware that more than one of our sellers has been asked to accept a much larger payment for their secondhand dress, and to pass on the 'excess' to a third party in this country. We are not sure if there is a genuine reason for wanting to do this, or if it is even legal. If in doubt, please contact your local police before agreeing to such a transaction.
